AMD Gives RF Mico Exec Ops Job

AMD announced this week that it has hired James A. Clifford as its senior vice president of global operations. He will report to president and CEO Lisa Su. The former RF Micro executive will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of AMD’s end-to-end manufacturing and supply chain strategy.

Clifford, 69, spent less than two years at RF Micro. He previously spent 17 years in executive roles at Qualcomm, including as a senior vice president and general manager of operations and senior vice president of Qualcomm CDMA Technology. Before Qualcomm, he spent more than 20 years at Unisys Corporation, leading its global sourcing and foundry operations.
"We are thrilled to add James to AMD’s leadership team," Su said in a press release. "His extensive industry expertise leading global semiconductor operations and technology strategy makes him the ideal candidate to lead our manufacturing and supply chain operations."
Clifford has a bachelor of science in physics from San Diego State University and is based in Austin, Texas. His appointment comes two months after AMD named Su its president and CEO.
